Re: Top Apps Used

We were initially going to post hard numbers as soon as we got the privacy policy acceptance stuff squared away, but with the appearance of at least one competitor, we decided it might not be in our best interest as a business to disclose exactly how big our membership is. Easier to just keep droppi...

Top Apps Used

I figured I'd share some info about the top application usage (anything over 1%). I realize that this adds up over 100% (and I left out a bunch of stuff), but remember that many people use more than one application. Freeguide: 1.0% Freevo: 1.1% GB-PVR: 13.8% MacProgramGuide: 1.4% MediaPortal: 2.5% P...

Re: How to pressure the TV stations

I don't claim to understand the TV stations' real purpose behind not releasing their schedules in a machine-readable format. However, there may be a method to get them to. Probably because they can't. Most of the stations get their programming info from TMS. There appears to be a large internal sep...

Re: I'm sorry, Not gonna renew.

A newspaper is a physical product that costs a lot more to produce I'm sure I'll let you figure out how much it would cost to maintain daily contact with the approximately 10,000 TV stations in the US and Canada to make sure that the information is accurate. It's not a conspiracy, it's just busines...

Re: Mixed Emotions!

Most TV stations will give you a lineup if you ask for it. The one I asked sent me the file -- it's an xls file that is typed by hand each week. It contains the program name (in two separate cells if the name is too long to fit on one line) and start/end information. No episode names, no description...

Re: abroad Listings?

Probably not. We have access to a limited number of non-North-American lineups, but these are mostly intended by Tribune for US military stationed abroad, so I'm pretty sure they don't have local channels (just some satellite stations).

Re: Mixed Emotions!

As far as the commercial ventures like TMS they do get the listings free form the networks and stations. Yes and no. As I understand this, it's worked out between TMS and the stations themselves. Probably takes the form of some stations paying TMS to carry their data, TMS paying some stations for t...

Re: Mult-home setup?

SD membership allows data to be used within one household with up to two locations (e.g. your primary house and a vacation home). What you described is four or more separate households, which would require a membership for each.

Re: International listings

Once we have figured out how to handle US/Canadian listings reliably, we do plan to look into offering international options. However, due to the costs involved, we'd have to have to have a pretty good idea how many users from each region would be seriously interested in paying for listings data.
