Right around 1pm central I was informed of (and fixing) database problems. I even shut down the webserver while I fixed it. That's probably what caused the intermittent behavior. If you're running unmodified code/hosts you could have also gotten Tribune's servers. That's taking half the load.
BTW, if you use xmltv.exe, be sure to upgrade to the latest alpha-exe so you're sure to hit the new server consistently. http://alpha-exe.xmltv.org

I just made an official XMLTV release. You can subscribe to the XMLTV announce mailing list if you want to be notified.
If you're using the alpha-exe, there's no reason to upgrade though... changes to tv_grab_na_dd are pretty rare.
