XMLTV Support in Pocket TV Browser

Pocket TV Browser v1.77 now supports the North American ("na") XMLTV grabber for U.S. and Canadian TV listings, using Schedules Direct "Data Direct" ("dd") service. The internal name of this grabber is "tv_grab_na_dd".

XMLTV grabbers are not bundled with Pocket TV Browser, because Double Bit Software not involved in the development of the XMLTV tools or the maintenance of any of its grabbers. You must download the XMLTV tools yourself, and then copy them into your Pocket TV Browser folder (normally located in C:\Program Files\Pocket TV Browser).

Pocket TV Browser v1.77 can now be downloaded for Palm and Pocket PC HERE.

Visit the XMLTV web site to download the latest XMLTV tools (here's a link to version 0.5.48 files). After downloading the tools, you must extract the grabber utility (xmltv.exe) and copy it to your Pocket TV Browser folder. It is not necessary to unzip or copy any other files but the xmltv.exe file.

Before you can use the North American "Data Direct" grabber, you must create an account on the Schedules Direct web site. When filling out your Schedules Direct profile, make sure that you use only alphanumeric characters for your loginname as PTVB does not like "@" or "." characters. NOTE: Schedules Direct will convert your login name to lowercase and PTVB is casesensitive. After creating your member profile, login and select the line-ups you will want to download later, and check only those channels you want to download.

Once you have finished setting up your Schedules Direct member profile, and you have copied xmltv.exe to the Pocket TV Browser folder, you will be able to add XMLTV listings.

When you first install Pocket TV Browser on your desktop PC, the Pocket TV Manager Listing Wizard should automatically appear. Otherwise, you can right click on the TV icon on your taskbar to open Pocket TV Manager, and then go to the Listings tab and click the "Add" button to begin the following process. You will be selecting XMLTV Zap2It listings for your service. (I know you will be downloading from Schedules Direct, but PTVB will not know the difference since XLMTV.exe will be doing the downloading.)

Image

The username and password that you chose earlier, on the Schedules Direct web site, must then be entered.

Image

Pocket TV Manager will then use XMLTV to connect to the Schedules Direct server and download the list of line-ups that you added to your Schedules Direct member profile.

Image

After selecting a line-up, you can make local name and/or number changes to any of the channels you specified in the line-up on the Schedules Direct web site.

Image

Click Finish. If your Schedules Direct member profile contains multiple line-ups, and you want to include some or all of them in your Pocket TV Browser listings database, repeat the above steps for each desired line-up.

If you have any problems or questions about Pocket TV Browser and XMLTV support, visit PTVB User Group @Yahoo. Please do not bother the Schedules Direct gang with PTVB support questions.

Pocket TV Browser Switching Service Instructions

Postby brownster » Fri Sep 14, 2007 5:55 pm

If you are switching straight from Zap2It to SD, follow these steps:

1. Sign up for SD using an alphanumeric loginname. Do not use your email as PTVB will not allow characters such as "@" or "." NOTE: Schedules Direct will convert your login name to lowercase and PTVB is casesensitive.

2. Set up your channels on the SD website.

3. Make sure that the latest xmltv.exe is in the PTVB directory/folder. It has to be in the same folder (normally located in C:\Program Files\Pocket TV Browser). You can download the latest xmltv (version 0.5.48) at this link. You do not have to unzip or copy anyother file but the xmltv.exe file into the PTVB directory.

4. Go to the Listing Tab in PTVB and click the properties tab. You can right click on the TV icon on your taskbar to open Pocket TV Manager settings to get to the Listing Tab

5. Select the zap2it as service... Which should already be selected as you were using zap2it. cCick next and enter your SD username and password in the appropriate spaces.

6. Click next and finish the setup.

You should be able to use PTVB as you did in the past. It will show the service as zap2it, but the xmltv.exe file will be communicating with SD instead of Zap2It. PTVB doesn't know any different.

If you are having problems, you might want to uninstall PTVB and reinstall a fresh copy and run through the setup, making sure you choose Zap2It as your service with the latest xmltv.exe in the PTVB folder. NOTE: Most problems have been due to not having the latest xmltv.exe in the PTVB folder or login name and passwords not being entered correctly. And uninstalling will cause you to loose your Favorites and other settings, so uninstall as a last resort.

It has been reported and confirmed that you can edit the ptvmanager.ini file under the zap2it section so that SD shows up in the service area of the setup. It would look like this:

[zap2it-dd]
description=XMLTV Schedules Direct Listings (US, Canada)

Hope this helps,
Jim

If you have any problems or questions about Pocket TV Browser and XMLTV support, visit PTVB User Group @Yahoo. Please do not bother the Schedules Direct gang with PTVB support questions.

NOTE:For those who have been using a batch file and want to keep your batch file the main change is the line for the xmltv.

1. Open your batch file to Edit...
2. Change the xmltv line so that the output file matches the file that PTVB created and TVTweak found when browsing. It is probably something like this: xmltv tv_grab_na_dd --days 14 --output provider1.xml

You should now be able to run the batch file to automate the whole process or download from within PTVB. You can now configure XMLTV from with PTVB.

Hi,
I am hoping someone can help me. In setting up, when I get to the section "Listing Wizard:Available Listings", there is nothing to select, it is blank.

Are you setting up from a new install or switching info from a previous install? Can you look in the PTVB folder (probably C:\Program Files\Pocket TV Browser\) and find the ptvmanager.ini file? It should look like the data below. If it does not, then copy the info below and past it in the file, replacing the data there with the below data. You should then see XMLTV Schedules Direct Listings showing up in the Service choice.

Pocket TV Browser -no Digital channels

Postby RCDuggiedug » Sun Jun 08, 2008 8:17 pm

I haven't used this program for years and just now set it up with SD but I can't get the digital channels to show. As I set up channels to download, I see all the channels I want. I've tried renumbering to without the dot sub-channel (10.1 to 11) with no luck.

I purchased PTVB a long time ago but there was a time that I didn't use it. Sure wish someone can help.
