mythfilldatabase running for 2.5 hours, new install

Postby muggeridge » Fri Jul 27, 2012 9:54 am

Linux Mint 13 Maya, 32-bit X86. New install of Mythtv 0.25.

Mythfilldatabase has been running for 2:45 now.

This can't be normal behavior. The terminal keeps indicating progress, as if it is working. Every 20 minutes or so it says something like:

EDIT: mount /tmp with tempfs - I found this made a lot of difference with fedora 17 (Dec12). Then...
Code: Select all
tmpfs               /tmp            tmpfs   nodev,nosuid    0 0

try mounting /var EXT3 with the guard time disabled. Here's my fstab:
\
Code: Select all
LABEL=var           /var            ext3    defaults,noatime,nodiratime,nobarrier        1 2

You could limit the risk by just doing this for an EXT3 partition that holds MySQL data (/var/lib/mysql for my Fedora system). I've had tmp and var on two machines mounted this way for several months now with no problems. electirc power is highlyl reliable though so not much experience with the crashes that would be a problem. I did see a post about a different solution to this problem but never followed it up - ain't broke and all that... YMMV
