ATSC "program" values available?

ATSC "program" values available?

Postby gtb » Mon Aug 15, 2016 1:54 pm

Low priority question.

[I had thought I asked this question at one point, but a quick search came up blank, so if there is a repeated question, apologies]

Does Gracenote have the ATSC "program" values associated with the Major.Minor values (somewhat akin to DVB service-id)? We get the frequency (via uhfVhf), but not the program associates with the ATSC major/minor. While *many* programs are the same as the minor number (so channel 23.4 on uhfVhf 30 may be at 569Mhz, program 4, it could also be program 8).

Looking at the sample Gracenote data it does not appear that this info is available, but I figured I would ask (since I suspect their sample is not a complete set of what they offer).

If it *is* available, I would request that a very low priority change be added to the queue to add it to the returned data. The use case is "auto-tuning" or "auto-configuring" of applications [take the SD data and configure the app to tune to what the user requested]. (the particular use case would be MythTV, but (a) it is just an idea, and (b) there is no current support for it in there, so I would have to write it and submit it for consideration, and (c) there is no assurance that any code would get accepted). Since a lot of the use case is extremely theoretical at this point, the request really does need to be towards the bottom.

Thanks.

No, not as far as I can tell. Can you send me an example of a table extract, or HDHR scan output?

Looks like I forgot about this. Limited/extracted scan results below for an example.

I did not really expect Gracenote to track the information, but I figured I would ask (as Schedules Direct likely has the "real"/"complete" Gracenote API docs).

No further action is needed on your part (i am going to go another way).

Thanks for checking in the first place!

Gracenote does not have this information in the API.

I'm currently having to tune the channel and then when it locks, start querying streaminfo until the programs list is populated, and then selecting the program. The approach hasn't caused me any problems. What I did notice though is that the programs list (this one happens to having matching subchannel/progid) obtained by the hdhomerun gives a lot more useful information on channel names.

Code: Select all
1: 18.1 LA18.1
2: 18.2 SBS
3: 18.3 MBCD
4: 18.4 CGNTV
5: 18.5 USA
6: 18.6 MBCA
7: 18.7 ARTN
8: 18.8 LA18.8
9: 18.9 YTV
10: 18.10 chTV
11: 18.11 CHNL-A

The SD JSON interface gives these as, callsign KSCIDT, KSCIDT2, KSCIDT3...etc, and name KSCIDT (KSCI-DT), KSCIDT1 (KSCI-DT 1)...etc. One of them, MBCD, does fill out affiliate as MBCD. Unfortunately, hdhomerun cuts this data off at 15 characters:

Code: Select all
148: 1791 MediaSet Italia (encrypted)
160: 169 AWE (encrypted)
262: 300 Fox College Spo (encrypted)
263: 301 Fox College Spo (encrypted)
264: 302 Fox College Spo (encrypted)
282: 232 FX Movie Channe (encrypted)
390: 1795 CCTV-4 Chinese (encrypted)
391: 1755 Filipino Channe (encrypted)
494: 1689 Cine Sony Telev (encrypted)
651: 1686 Cine Mexicano (encrypted)
1617: 191 FXX West (encrypted)

My current plan is to scan channels in the background when a tuner is free and fallback to the name provided by SD when the length is 15 characters. It'd be really useful if SD could provide user presentable channel names like the above.

It's almost impossible to keep up with this, because the broadcaster can change it whenever they want. Including spelling errors.
